A GS1 Digital Link is a way of writing a product barcode as a web address. Instead of a QR code holding only a number, it holds a URL such as https://example.com/01/09506000134352. The digits after /01/ are the GTIN, the same product number printed under a normal barcode. Because it is a web address, a phone can open it and a scanner can still read the product number from it.
Sunrise 2027 is the target date by which retailers worldwide expect their checkouts to scan 2D barcodes, such as QR codes carrying a GS1 Digital Link, as well as the traditional linear barcode. Until checkouts are ready, most packs carry both codes at once, which is why the space they take up on a label matters.
Yes. Your GTIN and company prefix are licensed from GS1 and that does not change. Onpack does not sell, mint or resell barcode numbers. It hosts the web address that sits behind the number you already own.
Yes, for any number of products. There is no paid tier. Onpack is free because aggregate scan patterns, such as how often codes are scanned and in which countries, are valuable on their own. You get that data for your own products. We do not sell your product data and we do not put advertising in front of your shoppers.
No, and that is the point of a resolver. The web address printed on the pack stays the same for the life of the product. What that address returns is a setting you can change at any time, including long after the packaging has shipped.
Yes. Onpack meets all 25 requirements of the GS1-Conformant Resolver Standard version 1.2.0 and passes all 54 checks in GS1's public conformance test suite, run against this live service. GS1 does not operate a certification body for resolvers, so conformance is declared in a resolver description file and demonstrated by that test suite. We describe Onpack as conformant, never as certified or endorsed.
Compressed Digital Link URIs beginning eh or ex are decoded for SGTIN-96, SGTIN-198 and SSCC-96, which covers serialised trade items and logistics units. Any other EPC scheme is refused with a clear error rather than decoded into an identifier we cannot verify. GS1's test suite does not check compression, so that part is covered by the compression standard's own worked examples used as test vectors.
